MY STORY
After ten years of traveling through over fifty countries, I realized that modern tourism was losing its soul. travelsafego was established to bring back intentionality, depth, and genuine curiosity to travel — to transform the way people experience the world.
What began as a personal journey of discovery evolved into a mission: to help others find meaning in their travels, to connect with local cultures in authentic ways, and to return home not just with souvenirs, but with stories that matter.
WHY I TRAVEL
To travel is to willingly strip away the familiar routines that numb our senses. It forces us to listen closely, adapt gracefully, and accept the unexpected with open arms. Travel is not an escape from life — it's a deeper immersion into it.
Every journey is an opportunity to challenge our assumptions, broaden our perspectives, and discover parts of ourselves we didn't know existed. The world is vast, and we are small — but that's precisely what makes travel so humbling and transformative.
"The journey is the destination. Every step, every conversation, every moment of wonder — that's where the real magic lives."
TRAVEL PRINCIPLES
These guiding values shape every journey we curate and every experience we recommend.
- Leave no trace; create meaningful cultural connections that honor local traditions and communities.
- Prioritize depth of experience over breadth of destinations. It's better to know one place deeply than to skim a dozen.
- Support independent local economies, artisans, and family-owned stays that invest in their communities.
- Travel slowly enough to notice the small things — the scent of morning bread, the rhythm of a local market, the kindness of a stranger.
- Embrace the unexpected. The best stories often come from unplanned detours and happy accidents.

WHY SLOW TRAVEL FEELS DIFFERENT
Reflections on spending three weeks in a single mountain village in Northern Italy.
THE MORNING THE MOUNTAINS DISAPPEARED.
BY ALEX R. / AUGUST 2026
Somewhere between the last village and the first summit, the landscape changed completely. Fog rolled down from the pass in thick, silent waves, swallowing the pine lines and the jagged grey peaks above us.
When you cannot see the horizon, your focus shifts inward—to the sound of boot soles pressing into wet shale, the rhythmic cadence of breathing, and the sudden weight of absolute stillness.
By noon, the clouds parted just as quickly as they had arrived, revealing an unmapped glacial tarn reflecting the ice walls above in complete mirror perfection.
